Templeton Rye traces to Prohibition-era Templeton, Iowa, where bootleggers Frank Schroeder and Alphonse Kerkhoff distilled a rye whiskey good enough to become Al Capone’s reported drink of choice, known in Chicago speakeasies simply as “the good stuff.” The modern brand relaunched in 2006 built around that recipe, and today’s straight rye is a 95% rye, 5% malted barley mash bill, distilled in Indiana and aged in charred New American oak barrels back in Templeton, bottled at 45% ABV.
