Maka Zai Gold is one of India’s early premium artisanal rums, made in Goa from a blend of molasses and cane spirit sourced from Punjab, then aged two and a half years in ex-bourbon oak barrels. The nose carries praline, dry dates and figs alongside caramel, cinnamon and honey, coming together into a creamy, well-rounded palate with a soft vanilla accent running through it. It’s built for sipping neat or on ice rather than lost in a mixed drink, the oak ageing giving it more structure than most Indian rums at this price. A single ice cube is enough to open up the date and fig character without diluting the caramel.
