Jägermeister was perfected by Curt Mast in Wolfenbüttel, Germany, over several years before its launch on the German market more than 80 years ago, brewed from a secret recipe of 56 herbs, roots, blossoms and fruits sourced from around the world. The raw botanicals are weighed, ground and macerated in alcohol and water for weeks, a process the brand compares to brewing tea, then blended into a concentrated base that matures roughly a year in oak casks before being blended with water, alcohol and caramelised sugar. The full recipe has stayed a closely guarded secret since Mast’s day, and the brand still runs 383 quality checks before a single bottle is filled.
