El Cristiano Reposado XR is billed by the brand as an entirely new tequila category, “XR” for Extra Reposado, currently the only permitted extra reposado label in the world per Forbes. It’s a blend of two barrel types: six months in re-charred American oak ex-bourbon and ex-Tennessee whiskey barrels, then five to five-and-a-half months in re-charred French oak barrels that previously held Bordeaux red wine, a combination that lends toast and vanilla from the American oak and cinnamon, clove and a gentle wine character from the French oak. Like the rest of the range, it’s made from 100% Blue Weber agave harvested at least six years old from the Jalisco highlands, additive-free, at Casa Tequilera de Arandas.
