Godawan is Diageo’s single malt distilled in the Thar desert of Rajasthan, made from locally sourced six-row barley fermented for an unusually long 55 to 65 hours and matured at temperatures reaching up to 100°F. Its cask programme is built around two Indian botanicals from Ayurvedic tradition, Rasna and Jatamansi, chosen from among 5,000 candidates to season the wood; Series 02, styled “Fruit & Spice,” ages the spirit in cherry-wood casks treated with these botanicals, a more porous wood than the ex-bourbon barrels used for Series 01, imparting more floral and subtly spiced character.
