Jim Beam Black first appeared in the 1970s as “101 Months,” rebranded in 1978 as an 8-year “Double-Aged” expression built to sit above the standard 4-year White Label. After the age statement was dropped in 2015 in favour of a vaguer “Extra-Aged” label, master distiller Fred Noe and the Jim Beam blending team blind-tasted older batches in 2024 to find where the bourbon actually peaked, landing back on seven years at 90 proof, a return to the strength and age many longtime drinkers grew up on. The seventh year in cask is the sweet spot, where smoothness meets caramel, vanilla and warm oak.
