Gentleman Jack is Jack Daniel’s first major line extension, introduced in 1988, distinguished by an extra step: it’s run through the brand’s maple-charcoal Lincoln County Process twice, once before barrelling and again before bottling, rather than the single filtration standard Old No. 7 gets. That double charcoal mellowing is what gives it its signature smoothness, a lighter, drier oak character than the standard bottling. It’s made in Lynchburg, Tennessee, at America’s oldest registered distillery, ironically located in a dry county where the whiskey itself can’t legally be sold except as a souvenir to visitors.
