Volcán de Mi Tierra is a joint venture between Mexico’s Gallardo family, the family behind José Cuervo, and Moët Hennessy, founded in 2017 with Maestra Tequilera Ana María Romero Mena overseeing production in Jalisco. The Cristalino expression blends añejo tequila rested in Glenmorangie Scotch casks with extra añejo tequila matured in Hennessy cognac casks. After blending, the tequila is charcoal filtered, a process that strips out color and the most prominent wood tannins while retaining the aroma and flavor compounds built up during aging. The result looks like a blanco in the glass but carries the depth of a long aged tequila underneath.
