VAT 69 375 ml
VAT 69 was created in 1882 by Leith-born blender William Sanderson, who vatted 100 casks and had a panel of friends pick the best one, cask number 69, giving the whisky its name. The nose carries spice and caramel with barley malt and a soft wheat character, alongside honey, vanilla and a touch of smoke, opening into a palate of ground almonds and barley malt with a warm, winey sweetness and a smoky, spicy finish. It’s one of the older names in blended Scotch, built as a smooth, approachable everyday whisky rather than a bold or complex one.
