Romios Ouzo
Romios is produced by Cavino, a long-established Greek wine and spirits producer based in Aigio, in Western Greece, and has been noted by Greek drinks writers as an unusual ouzo that stands apart from more typical examples of the style. Ouzo itself is Greece’s national spirit, an anise-flavoured liqueur distilled from tsipouro (a grape-pomace spirit) and infused with aniseed and other botanicals, a style the European Union recognises as an exclusively Greek product. It’s traditionally served neat over ice or diluted with water, which turns the clear spirit a cloudy white (“louche”) and releases its aromatic oils, sipped slowly alongside mezze.
