Launched in 2008, Maestro Dobel Diamante was the tequila that created the cristalino category: a blend of reposado, añejo, and extra añejo tequilas aged in new white oak barrels from the Balkan region, then filtered to strip out color while keeping the complexity built up during aging. That filtration is what separates it from Maestro Dobel’s own 50 Cristalino, which is an exclusively extra añejo tequila rested a minimum of three years and released as a more limited, ultra aged expression; Diamante is the multi age blend that started the style. The result looks like a blanco in the glass but drinks with the roundness of an aged tequila.
