Amarula is distilled from the marula fruit, harvested once a year across Africa’s subequatorial plains during the height of summer. Local communities gather the ripe, plum-sized fruit by hand before it’s washed, pulped, fermented and distilled through a column still, then aged for two years in French oak, where it gains spice notes of vanilla and toast. The matured spirit is finally blended with cream and natural flavours to round out the taste.
