Amrut Kurinji Single Malt belongs to Amrut Distilleries’ Single Malts of India series, named after the Kurinji flower that blooms in the Nilgiri hills only once every twelve years. It is distilled and matured in Bangalore’s tropical climate, which accelerates maturation and gives Indian single malts a character quite different from Scotch aged in a cooler climate over many more years. This expression leans floral and spiced rather than heavily oaked, built around jasmine, pear and ginger instead of the deeper wood notes typical of older Scotch. It suits drinkers looking for something distinctive from India’s single malt scene beyond the more familiar peated expressions.
