Jameson Black Barrel is a small-batch blend of triple-distilled pot still and grain Irish whiskey, distilled only one week a year and matured in barrels that have been charred twice, the extra charring step the name refers to. Each batch carries a higher proportion of pot still whiskey than standard Jameson and is aged 9 to 12 years, compared with 4 to 7 years for the original, first launched in New York in 2011 as a more complex step up from Jameson’s standard bottling. Produced at Midleton Distillery in County Cork by Pernod Ricard, it’s built to work equally well neat, on the rocks or in an Old Fashioned.
CHARACTER
Caramel: butterscotch and fudge on the nose
Vanilla: soft and rounding through to the finish
Almond: nutty richness on the palate
Cinnamon: warm spice on the palate and finish
Honey: golden sweetness on the nose
TASTING NOTES
NOSE- Intensified aromas of butterscotch, fudge, creamy toffee and honeyed sweetness from double-charred barrel maturation.
PALATE- Nutty almond alongside the smooth sweetness of spice, vanilla, caramel and cinnamon.
FINISH- Rich and intense, toasted wood and vanilla, into a medium, creamy, fruity close.
