Molinari’s Sambuca Extra has been made in Civitavecchia, Italy, since 1945, when perfumer and blending specialist Angelo Molinari set out to create the highest-quality sambuca; the brand’s recipe has stayed secret ever since. It’s built around star anise as its defining botanical, produced to ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 quality standards. The liqueur’s popularity spread through Rome’s restaurants and bars, including those along Via Veneto, and the family-run company continued after Angelo Molinari’s death in 1975 under his sons.
