Roe & Co is a blend of Irish malt and grain whiskies matured in ex-bourbon casks, a high proportion first-fill, developed by Diageo’s Master Blenders Caroline Martin and Dr Jim Beveridge across more than 100 trial blends before settling on the final recipe, launched in 2017. It’s named for George Roe, whose 19th-century Dublin distillery once covered 17 acres on Thomas Street and was, at its peak, Ireland’s largest; Diageo later built a new single malt distillery on the site of the former Guinness Power House nearby, in the historic Dublin Liberties, with distillation beginning in 2019. Non-chill filtered and bottled at 45% ABV, it was designed from the outset with cocktails in mind.
CHARACTER
Vanilla: soft and creamy through the nose and into the finish
Honey: leads the nose, golden and sweet
Cinnamon: warming spice through the palate and finish
Coconut: chocolate-covered coconut on the nose
Pear: stewed pear on the palate
TASTING NOTES
NOSE- Honeyed with lavender and golden syrup, vanilla, peach and chocolate-covered coconut, with a touch of white pepper.
PALATE- Honeyed newly sawn oak with peach, lavender and stewed pear, building into ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon spice.
FINISH- Long, with white pepper, cinnamon and vanilla oak.
