Chivas Regal 12 traces to 1801, when the Chivas brothers opened a grocer’s shop in Aberdeen selling luxury food, coffee and spices; the company didn’t start making whisky until half a century later. The 12 Year Old itself launched after Prohibition ended in the late 1930s, built around Speyside malts from Strathisla, the distillery Chivas Brothers acquired in 1950, blended with whiskies all aged a minimum of 12 years. It’s positioned as the house’s signature style: crisp orchard fruit, wild heather and sweet honey.
