Clase Azul Tequila Reposado is the founding expression of Clase Azul México, launched in 2000 by Arturo Lomeli in Guadalajara with an initial run of just 58 cases. It is made from 100% Blue Weber agave grown in Los Altos de Jalisco, cooked in masonry ovens, fermented with the house’s proprietary yeast, and double distilled in copper pot stills before resting eight months in American whiskey casks. What sets Clase Azul apart as much as the liquid inside is its decanter: each one is hand formed and hand painted at Clase Azul’s own ceramic workshop, Tradición Mazahua, founded in 2007 in Santa María Canchesda in the State of Mexico, home to the Mazahua artisan community the workshop is named for. The cobalt blue feathered brushstrokes that decorate every Reposado decanter are applied entirely by hand before firing, so natural variation means no two decanters come out quite alike. Clase Azul’s own guidance is to serve it neat in a tulip shaped glass, paired with smoked provolone, orange or tangerine, or bittersweet chocolate.
